Motorcycles, since they first hit the roads, have won the hearts of the youth and the old alike. The older generation wants to get the feel of the young by zooming in the streets at breath-taking speeds, while the youth finds it as the only means of transport that is both, economical and stylish. Motorcycles have undergone rapid changes over the years. There are huge differences between the motorcycles of today and those that were manufactured some four decades ago. While the older motorcycles were bulky, the modern day’s motorcycles are much more compact and stylish.

One such feature that is indicative of rapid transformation is the motorcycle headlight. While the motorcycles of the 1970’s had 12 volts systems, the motorcycles of 1980’s turned to 6 volts system. It is to be noted that 12 volts system uses 6 cells while the 6 volts system uses 3 cells. It was only after the 1920’s that the bulbs powered by electricity came into prominence. However the halogen bulbs became popular only in the 1980’s. Then the filament-type bulbs became popular. In this case, the filament glows after electricity passes through it heating it to a very high temperature. Today the advanced HID bulbs are being used in select motorcycles. It is the high-performance High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs, with longer life and much more intense lights that any other halogen lights. They use up only half the power consumed by halogen bulbs whereas their life-span is ten times that of halogen bulbs. These HID lights not only look very stylish but they also give you a wider and a longer field of vision, thereby reducing chances of accidents at night.
