A Telecaster has a very bright and distinctive sound, while a Stratocaster has a more flexible sound. The guitarist in my band says that he’d like to have a Gibson Les Paul for the mellow sound and a Telecaster for the bright and punchy sound, but if he can only afford one guitar he likes his Stratocaster because it’s flexible enough to sound a little like both. If you’re going to have just one electric guitar, I agree that the Strat is a good choice.

Do keep in mind that the bridge pickup on the Tele is slanted. Therefore, I gave you three measurements and a closeup photo to show this slant. From the centers of the pole pieces on the low e string (the big one) it measures 4 1/4″ or 107.95mm. On the high e (the smallest string) it measures 4 15/16″ or 125.4125mm. And down the very center it measures 4 9/16″ or 115.8875mm.Hope that helps. Here is a closeup of the slanted pickup of which I alluded to earlier.http://elderly.com/images/fmic/30N/FNAST-NAT-RSWD_front-detail-3.jpgEdit: I think I may have misinterpreted your question. If your wanting to know the distance between the pole pieces side by each then they measure as follows.Neck pickup 10mmBridge pickup varied from 11mm to 12 (I have four Teles and measure them all).

I’ve built 3 so far. I get all my parts from this site:www.telecaster-parts.comThis site finds the best deals on parts and links you whatever you’re looking for. The main page is broken into the different telecaster parts.

It is surely doable although you won’t simply be able to take a Tele body and just slap a bass neck and pick ups on it. Craiglist.org might be a good place to advertise to find a luthier or wood worker who could make the body for you. Also check out some guitar and bass magazines like Guitar and Bass Player and check the back where the ads are. It is a very doable project……………

A Telecaster is anything but pissweak. The Tele bridge pickup is one of the brightest and strongest among all guitars. What model is yours? A US or Mexican made Fender should not have this problem. Changing the pickups may not solve the problem. For a really hot-rodded Tele, based on the classic vintage ’50′s models you can try Dan Mare for pickups: http://www.buckcannon.com, http://www.callahamguitars.com for bridges and saddles.

I never use anything to clean my Telecaster. I wipe it down with a soft cloth whenever I change the strings, which I do fairly often: I bend a lot of notes and don’t want to break a string during a performance.
