What are the best strings to use on a Fender Stratocaster?
I currently use Fender Original Bullets Fender Paina Ukulele .009-.042. I heard Fender Strings work best with Fender guitars because of the bullet end. What do you think? I have a pack of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys in my case right now hahas.

    pros:

ok well first of all i am a beginner for learning a guitar… so i can not really say that this is the best one out there because i know there is way better ones out there…. but for the price, and for beginners this is a great deal and plays well…

cons: the advertisement on amazon says all the great things that it comes with in the “Fender Starcaster Strat Pack – 3-Tone Sunburst”….BUT, What it advertises is incorrect… it said that it come with a “guitar stand, and instructional DVD”… well it doesnt!!!

make sure you read the whole description and you will notice that it was listed to have the “guitar stand, and instructional DVD” in two places…. but like i said before it DOES NOT come with those items…

  • Keegan :

really i been playing for a while now and i was amazed by the quality, for a beginner highly recommend it and you get exactly what you paid for. :)

  • Estabrook :

At first glance this guitar just spoke to me. The 3 tone sunburst adds a beautiful look to it’s outstanding sound. Although the packaging could have been better, the guitar and all of its equipment remain in great condition. For a starter guitar this is the one you need. It’s simple but yet so breath taking look will make you feel like you have got years of playing experience already under your belt. The amplifier for its size sounds pretty decent. The tuner works, but I just prefer to tune with my piano. The headphones are a lifesaver for when you have too many people over or it’s late at night and you still want to play. The picks are all medium which is what I prefer. Overall this was a great buy and I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to start learning how to play the guitar.

  • Magno :

Great buy. My daughter really enjoys it. Excellent for starters. Only one drawback… we found the same article at a local ToysRUs a couple of days later… same price minus the S&H!!!!

  • Flan :

The Guitar pack was pretty much as i expected. Nice instrument; cheap gig bag. The instructional DVD I must say is disappointing. As a beginner, it didn’t really hit the basics and was not much use. Good value on the instrument itself though.

  • Mor :

I don’t regret buying this guitar. I don’t have a lot of time on my hands or money in my pockets so I was looking for something like this product. It has an OK sound. It’s big for me but I’m a small person so that’s just me. The gig bag is pretty bad. The guitar barely fits in it with a lot of shoving and it looks like it’s probably going to break. I’m not sure about this part but it seems like the neck is bending back. It’s cheap material so this isn’t a surprise. But as I learn chords and read tabs and get used to it, I’m happy with it. It stays tuned for a decent amount of time. The DVD isn’t that helpful. I threw it out. There are sites online that are very helpful. One of the strings broke already but changing it was no big deal. They probably could’ve given directions on how to tune with the electronic tuner, change the strings. etc. Overall, it’s good for learning and I think it was a good purchase and just remember you can always upgrade as soon as you’ve learned the basics.

  • Kincaid :

This is a gorgeous guitar, more than what I expected it to be for the price. I don’t know what to do with it yet, but hopefully I’ll be making some nice sounds with it soon.

  • Eagles :

Keeping in mind that this guitar is meant to be an inexpensive guitar, you really can’t go wrong.

It really does sound very good, and is way better than I thought it would be. No, it’s not a Taylor, but it’s not a toy, either.

The neck on this one feels perfect out of the box, w/no adjustments, but I haven’t put my favorite strings (.013 Elixir Polywebs) on it yet.

You definitely get what you pay for. (Gig bag is pretty cheep, though, and I haven’t tried the tuner)

  • Fawk :

Ok, first off, even if you are a beginner, I do not recommend this guitar.
    Why?
One, this guitar has highly incremental buzz. Most people will tell you when you ask, that this is because of the amp, but this is because this is essentially quite cheaply constructed, and the parts aren’t as good as a lot of others. The strings are too close to the fret, and this is one of the reasons.
Two, cheap materials, as I stated, are troublesome. After owning the guitar for one week, and having to take out and screw in the whammy bar, the screw part of it got stuck in the hole. Not shortly after that, we returned the guitar.
Three, the frets. Many people stated this, and this is a very big problem for anyone. The frets are NOT smooth at ALL and after just one week of use I had scars and a ripped up palm on my hand.
But if you want a good guitar in this price range, for beginners, here’s what I recommend. Get a Fender Squier. At most sites, the base Fender Squier costs $119. About $90 less than this does here, and it has much smoother fret board, but it still has some of the buzz found in this guitar. I also recommend a beginner Epiphone Les Paul or SG.

  • Kerns :

Got this guitar package for Christmas (in midnight blue, but oh well), and I am liking this a lot. As other reviewers have stated, you are not getting a $300 guitar and a $100 amp – you are getting a cheapo beginner’s guitar with a wimpy amp.

THAT BEING SAID, it is worth much more than the measly $200 you spend! This is a GREAT package to get for a beginner to the electric guitar. The guitar is sturdy enough to handle some rough playing, and it seems to stay in tune somewhat well. The amp, while not loud or sturdy enough to use in a concert, is fun to mess around with and start experimenting with distortion, etc. I’m sure the picks are fine – I prefer hard picks, so I didn’t even look at the ones in the package. I also didn’t look at the DVD included, having known how to play acoustic for a few years prior.

The bad news: The strings died very quickly for me (both the already string ones and the replacements included). The tuner is finicky at best. The amp will die if you crank the volume and blast away for very long. The strap comes off if you glance at it.

However, for a beginner, this package is perfect. Once you get some practice and feel like moving on, you can get a new tuner, a new amp, and even a new guitar one at a time at your leisure.

TL;DR: This is a great deal for a beginner, well worth the $200.

  • Landrum :

This is a amazing guitar. I just got it and have been playing it for like 4 hours already. stopped to write this thing up. My fingers hurt! ahaha that’s a sign of becoming a guitarist. well this stuff is great the only thing is i suggest you tune it to the mic and not the outlet. I sold my ps3 to afford this and that was i good move because this is better than any guitar hero i played. I haven’t watched the DVD and don’t intend to, I want to teach myself and have learned about4 chords and 1/2 a intro to Be yourself from audioslave. BUY THIS ITEM!!!! plus it comes with three picks of fender that they sell here for like 7 dollars and there white brown and green but they look shiny marble, i cant explain but they look really cool.

  • Diep :

I can’t believe all you get for around $200. For someone who wants to learn the guitar, and does not want to shell out a lot of bucks, this package can’t be beat!

The amp isn’t all that great, but who cares.

  • Favors :

Answers many of the questions inquiring minds want to know. I bought it for my 9-year old son, a budding electric guitar player, who was forever asking me questions about Fender. He had found the site on the Internet and was learning the sounds of each of these distinctive guitars from the audio bytes they generously served up. The book is handsomely illustrated and includes all the famous Fenders with short bios on those who played them. But the star of this book is the guitar which has become an icon of American rock music. We have even made some cardboard models of those he likes most. A must have for Fender fans of all ages.

  • Denny :

Great book. A must have for any Fender fan. I enjoyed every line ( and pic) of it.
Since this year is Fender 60th Anniversary, I expected the book to be updated to today, but the last enter is year 2000.A great purchase anyway.
    Buy it!

  • Darrow :

Mr.Smith was able to write a story of the evolution of Fender Musical Intruments that was crafted in much the same way as Leo Fender’s “no nonesense” technical philosophy. It seems that everyone who worked for the company is writing, or has written a book that often is either romanticized or modified to fit a personal agenda. The unbiased approach is both shocking and refreshing. Mr.Smith’s book also has hundreds of rare and unseen inside photos of the factory, people, and instruments that alone are worth the price of the book. If anyone is interested in the history of this company, “Fender Sound Heard “Round the World” is the only book you will need. Be warned, the book is as addictive to read and browse as playing a blues lick on your Stratocaster!

  • Cannon :

This is a very good book to develop an appreciation of the Fender guitar and its development from the “Broadcaster” to the “Telecaster” and beyond. There are some outstanding pictures of vintage Fenders, the Fender “Precision” and other basses, steel guitars, and amps, as well as the musicians who played and/or promoted them. There’s a sense of history too, as the book’s sidebars list important historical and musical events of each era. At this relatively low price, it’s a nice, albeit brief, introduction to the history of the electric guitar and the man who both made it commercially viable and made some outstanding innovations.

Now, I don’t want language that only a sound engineer could understand, but the book does not go into enough detail about how the electric guitar works, the differences between guitar brands and among the various Fender models, or the various sonic experiments performed by Leo Fender and his colleagues at the Fender factory in Fullerton, California. This renders the book most suitable for those with a passing (or newfound) interest in the subject, rather than those with a passion for it. For more details, you might try “The Fender Book: A Complete History of Fender Electric Guitars (2nd Ed)” by Tony Bacon and Paul Day.

  • Esposito :

I got this amp for two reasons. It was cheap and it was made by Fender. I started building mandolins and decided to try and electric. I needed a small amp in my shop where I could fine tune the electronics as I was building. This did the job and I would recommend it for a practice amp or as they suggest, a backstage tune-up.

  • Aoki :

I got this as a present for my boyfriend, and I know absolutely nothing about guitars and amps. Turns out this was a pretty good amp for just practicing in the house. He loves it, but still has plans on getting the amp of his dreams, so I would totally recommend it for a beginner or just some in house practice but not for shows and stuff. I had no problem with delivery and the product was in perfect condition.

  • Carroll :

This is a great amp….if you understand what you’re getting. All I wanted was the ability to make my electric guitar louder, and this does the trick perfectly. It can be dialed down so that you can just barely hear it, it can also be loud enough to clear the pets from your living room. My favorite part of this amp is the distortion switch, it works very well.

I fully expect this amp to serve its purpose and probably be passed down to a family member who learns to play later on down the road. Highly recommend for beginners.

  • Glasco :

this amp is small in size but full of sound. because of its size there is little bottom end but it still cranks!! very responsive, very clean sounding. this amp is well worth the price.
