I bought this book simply as a reference guide since I was building a copy of a 1952 Telecaster for my brother. I’m a guitarist and luthier and I build a variety of stringed instruments from guitars, to ukuleles, to dulcimers ([...]). I’d never built a solid body electric before. I wanted to make sure I was staying true to the ’52 external specs as much as possible, while looking into the later years of the guitar for upgrading the “innards” of the project. So in the beginning, my use of the

Since their inception, Fender guitars have stood for both quality and stylish design.  Fender guitars are considered the best musical instrument in their category.  Too many guitar heroes (real and would-be), Fender guitars represent the iconic electric guitar.  Jimi Hendrix’s electrified version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” shows what Fender guitars can do.

Bass

The Precision Bass® was born in 1951, forever changing music and giving birth to a new kind of musician – the electric bassist.  As a note of interest, when referring to the bass it can also be called electric bass or bass guitars.  The bass is similar in appearance to an electric guitar, but with a larger body, a longer neck and scale length, and, usually, four Fender Telecaster Custon 62 Reissue double bound M.I.J strings tuned an octave lower in pitch, thus result in the bass range.

Electric

Fender’s first solid-body electric guitar was introduced in 1950.  Solid-body electric bass guitars were also a Fender innovation.  But as the man whose company perfected the solid-body electric guitar, his contribution to contemporary music cannot be overstated.  Fender offered the first mass-produced solid-body Spanish-style electric guitar, the Telecaster (originally named the ‘Broadcaster’; ‘Esquire’ is a single pickup version) the first mass-produced electric bass, the Precision Bass (P-Bass); and popular Stratocaster (Strat) guitar.

Acoustic

Recognizing that country music and acoustic guitars were increasing in popularity, Fender expanded upon its acoustic guitar line.  While guitarists in the early part of this century played country, folk or blues on acoustic guitars, in the 1930′s, jazz musicians experimented with amplifying traditional hollow-body guitars so they could play with other instruments at the same sound level.

The older and American built Fender guitars are generally the most favored, but pre-1990 Fender Japan guitars are now highly regarded as well.  The entire line of American-made Fender guitars are built at the Corona factory, which is capable of making over 350 guitars each day.  In the initial years Fender guitars were only acquired from offshore manufacturers but quality control led to the establishment of different manufacturing facilities across the world.

a well written book about the fender telecaster, the first comercial solid body electric guitar.

  • Erikson :

First the disclaimer: I do not own a Telecaster nor do I even play guitar. I happen to think that a Telecaster is one of the most beautiful man made objects there is, so I got this book. I also bought SIX DECADES OF THE FENDER TELECASTER. This book was published in 1991. The SIX DECADES.. is much more recent. I enjoyed reading this one, too. However, if you can only get one, get the SIX DECADES. I do not regret having both of them. They have different pics. This book has the forwards by James Burton and Alvin Lee.

  • Idle :

Great book! If you love telecasters, fenders, or electric guitars you should get this book!

  • Earl :

I’d have to say if you want a basic overview of the Fender Telecaster you should find what you’re looking for here.
