When playing a vintage guitar one gets the rush of history that guitar has been through and Fender vintage guitars have over 60 years of rock, jazz, country, and funk to feel. Four of the more famous models are the Stratocaster, the Telecaster, the Mustang, and the Precision Bass.
The Fender Startocaster is a solid body, double-cut electric guitar released in 1954 and still in production today. The original model had a solid maple neck, with 21 frets, 2 or 3 single-coil pickups, and came in a 2-color sunburst finish. This model guitar is the original Strat although because its style and features have been so often copied Strat often refers to similar guitars of any manufacturer. The Startocaster has been played by famous people from Buddy Holly in 1958 to Eric Clapton in 2005 and has had over a dozen other famous musicians endorse various signature models.
The Fender Telecaster, originally called the Esquire and the Broadcaster, was released in 1949 and is still in production. This Vintage 1964 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Guitar Amp is the oldest model of the four Fender vintage guitars and hold the title as the longest continually produced solid-body electric guitar. This is a solid-body with two single coil pickups and a fixed bridge. The Telecaster has been played by dozens of famous musicians over the years including Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck. Variations of the Telecaster include the Telecaster Thinline with two Fender Wide Range pickups, the Deluxe with two Fender Wide Range humbucking pickups, and the Custom with single-coil pickup in the bridge and a Fender Wide Range pickup in the neck position. All originally released in 1972 and still produced today.
The Fender Mustang is a solid-body electric guitar with 2 single-coil pickups. Originally produced from 1964 through 1982 it has since been reintroduced and continues to be produced. The 1960s models can now sell for over $1,500.
The Fender Precision Bas (P-Bass) was the first mass-produced electric vintage bass guitar. It was released in 1951 and is still produced today. The original model had a single pickup, 20 frets, and was styled after the Telecaster. In 1957 the P-Bass was redesigned to resemble the Stratocaster and in three years later 1960 had its single pickup replaced with a split-coil pickup wired in humbucking mode. The Telecaster like model was brought back in 1968 as the Telecaster Bass.
The Fender Electric Instrument Manufacturing Company was founded by Clarence Fender in 1946 originally based in California. Now called Fender Musical Instruments Corporation it is located in Arizona however it still has manufacturing facility in California as well as Mexico. Other Fender vintage guitars include the Duo-Sonic (1956-1969), the Jaguar (1962-1975), and the Starcaster (1976-1982). Some of these have been reintroduced and are being produced today.

I have an old Vintage Lotus L660 Stratocaster. It has what appears to be a Pearl White or Porcelain White paint-job.Based on my research its specs are.. Ash body. Crafted in either Korea, India, or Japan. lol. It is an Exact Duplicate of the Vintage Fender Stratocaster that the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Dave Murray, and Stevie Ray Vaughn played.. From what I seen so far, it doesn’t lack any quality which the Fender Vintage Strat had, so I am very interested in refurbishing it. By putting a good Fender neck on it, I would consider it a Vintage Fender Stratocaster. That is saying a lot since they haven’t been reproduced since the 60′s. (That I know of).. It was made anywhere from 1964-1978 (Most commonly told its from 1967)Right now I don’t play it, It has a Jackson Js1 neck on it lol. I love my Lotus, so I may simply invest in a new Fender Neck for it.To get it even closer to a Vintage Fender, does Fender sell new Vintage Style necks?The original Lotus neck was warped beyond Vintage 1964 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Guitar Amp belief and also had a missing Nut when I received it, so I had go Homemade lol. That being said, I definitely need to invest in a Fender neck now.Condition.The paintjob is fully intact (No abrasions or massive peeling)However, it has several large chips (1/4 Inch size) (Cmon it’s over 40 if not 50 years old lol)It also have some dings but they are not very noticeable.The pickguard appears to be un-aged in that it is oddly white where most reviews online stated it turned a cream color.The middle pickup is the only one that still has the pickup cover. I like the way this looks, the way it goes Black White Black. The back spring/bridge cover is missing. I screwed in a Jackson Js1 cover (Idiotically screwing in new holes).The string saddles are from an Ibanez GAX.It has no Tremolo Bar. (Although it has a tremolo unit).Electronically it is unaged and sounds great. I have played many Fender Strats and Super Strats over the years and none compared to this one. So there has to be some hidden value in it.The Bridge pickup is a Demarzio Coil (So I am told by my brother who installed it).But that pickup has no springs to anchor it so it is rigged and lopsided.It sounds pretty bad right?Well I figure 90% of that is cheaply reversable.1. Buy a fender neck2. Get the bridge pickup installed properly3. Get a real strat back cover4. Buy a strat tremolo bar5. I think the paint-job should be left alone. I am with John Frucshiante in that, the wear and tear gives the guitar character. I might consider having it sanded down for its ash finish to come through.6. Same for the pickup covers, I like the dutch Black/White look.I figure, once all of that is done, I will have one hell of a Fender Stratocaster. By valuable I don’t just mean to sell. I am also asking if it would turn out to be great guitar, that if I refurbish it, will it’s quality be as good as a REAL Fender Vintage Strat. I am keeping this guitar, It doesn’t have a price to me, it was my first guitar. So selling it is out of question.
